There will be the opportunity to explore new areas of work under the new ‘GP retention scheme’. The aim is to:

  • Provide leadership through clinical training and innovation
  • Provide peer support through individual mentoring and coaching
  • Build on existing career portfolio through working in the voluntary sector
  • Change leadership; support for practices in crisis or in under-doctored areas
  • Utilise the range of clinical, organisational and managerial in new areas of work

There are many other topics of interest, discussions, workshops and events to consider, which will be agreed collectively during forthcoming networking meetings.

How will this be achieved?

  • Evening meetings which will be held once a quarter at a venue located in Bromley – between 7.00pm and 9.00pm (a hot meal will be provided)
  • Informing and encouraging GP colleagues to sign up to the programme
  • Networking opportunities to meet up with and talk to experienced peers in the same position
  • Work together to build a programme of events that will support continuing professional
development and with educational support, in new areas of work

If you meet any of the criteria listed below we would like to hear from you and welcome you to join us.

Your experience is very important to the development of the programme and the future of retiring GPs

  • Experienced GPs aged 50 – 60 years who may be intending to retire or withdraw from direct patient care within the next five years
  • GPs who took early retirement within the last five years (i.e. retired before the age of 60)
  • GPs (all ages) on a career break who are not intending on returning to work or who are intending on reducing direct patient contact if they decide to return to practice

If you would like to sign up to be a member of ‘Late Career and Retiring GPs’, please email the BETH Team at and place ‘Ikigai’ in the subject line.

For any queries please contact Dr Chris Fatoyinbo directly –
